Time To Clear Things Up

If you clicked on this page, you probably have one, or both, of two questions:

  • What is this “Ultraverse” thing?
  • What is a podcast?

Buckle your seatbelt, and prepare for answers.

So, What Are Ultraverse Comics?

Ultraverse was a comic book universe published by Malibu Comics in the early to mid 90’s.

To put it succinctly, Ultraverse comics ruled. The first couple years of Ultraverse comics were some of the best stories to be told in comic books in the 80’s and 90’s.

Our podcast is a celebration of the characters and story lines that Ultraverse published in the 90’s.

So, What Is A Podcast?

There are a few ways to describe podcasts:

  • Podcasts are internet radio
  • Podcasts are MP3 files
  • Podcasts are audio programs that you can automatically download

In the most basic terms, a podcast is a show that is released as an MP3 file on the internet.

MP3 files can be listened to with iPods, iPhones, a portable media player like the Zune, or directly on your computer.

What makes Podcasts so awesome is that you can make your computer AUTOMATICALLY download the latest podcast episode by subscribing to the latest podcast episode.

Most people use iTunes to subscribe, but Zune and Juice and also popular.

If you have never heard of any of these, Only The Valiant recommends iTunes to automatically download the podcast.

The way all of these programs work (iTunes, Zune, Juice, etc) is that whenever you start that program on your computer, it automatically checks to see if we have put out a new podcast episode. In fact, it will check to see if there is a new episode of EVERY podcast you have subscribed to. If there is a new episode, it downloads it to your computer. When you plug in your iPod, iPhone, Zune, or whatever portable media device you use, it automatically downloads it to that.

For me, that means that I can listen to the new episode of my favorite podcasts on my way to work when I plug my iPod into my computer, because my computer automatically downloads the new episodes and transfers them to my iPod..

Pretty cool, huh? All those geeks that design the internet made some pretty cool stuff.

Uh, um… us comic geeks are way better than them, right? right?

If you don’t want to deal with all of this “automatic download” stuff, and you just want to listen, you can click on the player that is a part of this website to listen to any episode. Please note that if you go to another web page, it will stop that episode from playing, so you have to leave your internet browser open if you want to listen that way.

You can also download the MP3 file directly to your computer and listen to it like any other MP3 file. To do this, just right click on the file name, and choose “save as” or “save file as” (depending on if you use Internet Explorer or Firefox), and save the file wherever you want on your computer. You can then listen to it using Media Player, Winamp, or any other program that plays MP3s.

Anyway, I hope this gives you a good idea of what podcasts are and how they work. You can use the information on this page to download a single episode, or subscribe to the show, so that you never miss an episode.
